ENERGY-EFFICIENT GLASS

Energy-Efficient Glass We Offer

When it comes to the energy efficiency of a home or business, the window and door glasses can make a significant difference. Insulated glass will provide more resistance to weather changes and their effect on your home than a single pane of glass. Other more energy-efficient glass options can help you save on heating and cooling and reduce the impact of the sun's rays on your furniture and tapestry.

We always recommend replacing your current broken or fogged glass with the same type of glass. Still, if you want to upgrade your existing glass to more energy-efficient glass, we can help you replace all your window glasses.

We install and replace glass in homes and businesses every day. The following are the most common energy-efficient glass options.

Low-E

Low-E stands for low emissivity and is a coating applied either in or on glass that reduces the amount of infrared and ultraviolet light while still allowing light to come through. Low-E coating can be used on annealed, tempered, laminated, and insulated glass.

There are different levels of Low-E performance glass with variations in the amount of light allowed through and the energy efficiency.

Hard Coat Low-E Glass

The most basic Low-E glass has a hard tin coat that is applied during the molting process. This Low-E glass is a better alternative to plain clear glass. Still, it is not nearly as energy efficient as the newer, more advanced Low-E options with soft coats. A single pane of glass can be made with a hard coating, whereas the soft coat must be applied to insulated glass.

Soft Coat Low-E Glass

The most energy-efficient window glasses have a Low-E soft coating applied after manufacturing the glass. The soft coating is vulnerable to damage, so it is always placed inside the insulated glass. There are several types of Low-E glasses and color options with a variation in the energy efficiency of every kind of high-performance glass.

Solarban and Solar Cool are two of the most common soft coat Low-E glasses. They are available in both annealed and tempered glass. There are different color options as well that can make a difference in the energy efficiency of the glass. Having high-performance Low-E glass, such as those with soft coats, can provide substantial energy savings.
