PLASTICS

Plastic Materials We Offer

We keep two types of plastics in our store, Plexiglas (acrylic) and Lexan (polycarbonate). Each plastic has its strengths, weaknesses, and uses. Here is an overview of the uses for each type of plastic.

Plexiglas

Plexiglas is commonly referred to as acrylic and is used for several purposes. It is a form of plastic that weighs less than glass, is more durable, and can be cut to many shapes and sizes that would otherwise cause the glass to break. Plexiglas does scratch easier than glass and can yellow in the sun over time. Here is an overview of some of the uses for the two most common thicknesses of Plexiglas.

1/8" Plexiglas

  • Glass Alternative when Safety Glass is Required
  • Storm Doors
  • Door Glass
  • Windows Near a Door or the Ground
  • Picture Frame Glass Alternative
  • Commonly Used in Large Frames because it Weighs Less than Glass
  • Barriers
  • Splash Guard

1/4" Plexiglas

  • Glass Alternative When Safety Glass is Required
  • Door Glass
  • Windows Near a Door or the Ground
  • Fisk Tank Lids
  • Tabletops
  • Signs
  • Vinyl Adheres Really Well to Plexiglass
  • Barriers
  • Plexiglass Boxes

Plexiglas in our store is available in 1/8" & 1/4" in Clear, Black, White Translucent, Bronze, and Gray.

We also have ClearView, which is .040" thick, Aquaview in 1/4" only, and J-3 Pattern Obscure Plexiglas, which is 3/16" thick.

Our experienced technicians can cut Plexiglas to almost any shape or size you need. We can also drill holes, make cutouts, and create custom designs. There are certain limits to what you can create with Plexiglas, but our technicians can make almost anything happen. We will let you know alternative solutions if there is something outside the limits of Plexiglas.

We also have 3/16", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" Clear Plexiglas available. Call for availability.

Lexan

Lexan is a polycarbonate and is virtually unbreakable. Its extreme durability makes it great for windshields on off-road vehicles, for barriers, and even windows. Lexan can be cut to different shapes and sizes and have holes drilled. The only downfall to Lexan is that it scratches easily. We keep 3/32", 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" in our store in clear. We can get bronze or gray tinted Lexan in 1/8" and 1/4". Call for availability.
